Mike Bowling, the creator of Splashlings, is also known as the guy who invented Pound Puppies toys. The Splashlings History goes all the way back to May 1984. Mike Bowling created a new set of toys named Splashlings. Splashlings are beautiful and colorful collectibles of mermaids. Along with their sea creature friends, they make the children’s imagination bound with possibilities. Splashlings features an ocean full of friends, which includes a group of mermaids, shells, underwater gems, and underwater treasures for kids to play and collect.
Mike’s success with his Pound Puppies creation provided his the financial means to continue to tinker with his various toy ideas. With that, Mike’s imagination and motivation allowed him to create the new Splashlings toy line that is gaining a lot of popularity today similar to the wildly popular Shopkins toys created by Moose Toys.

In an interview with Mike Bowling, when asked how he got interested in making toys, Mike Bowling proudly replied that he was a big kid at heart. You might wonder how Mike Bowling thought of creating mermaid toys and not something else. Here’s a memorable story on how Mike thought of it…

One day, during a walk on the beach with his granddaughter, Mike shared the sound of the waves inside the seashells. So his granddaughter asked what lives inside the shells. With Mike’s creative thinking, he replied to her daughter that true mermaids, who are very tiny, lived and played inside those shells. And just because of this question, Mike’s imagination blossomed and started to think, “what if I make these my new set of toys?”

So Mike pursued it, and even received some help from Shaftesbury and Nicole Demerese for publishing a digital series for TV to make the toys more popular. Shaftesbury created and produced “Life with Derek”. Nicole Demerese, contributed in writing “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”.

Mike found true joy from the process in realizing the toys that he just had in mind. He also considers himself as a granddad, sort-of-retired, and part-time pirate enjoying his life on Florida’s Coast.
